When I Was No Longer

When we met

I was a man and

You were a woman

You made me a man

When I gave your sweet breasts and face and voice

The glory of a woman

I made you a woman

When you gave my voice and strength and mood

The honor of a man

And when we lay down as a man and a woman

There came the time

When I was no longer man

And you

Were no longer woman

When your soft breasts and my hard thighs

No longer came between us

When man and woman no longer

Kept us apart

And all that we had said and done

Accomplished its purpose

When I was no longer a man

And you

Were no longer a woman
